New Moon Joined Mercury

On 12 May 2021, the new Moon was next to Venus in the western sky right after sunset. The next night, it was next to Mercury, but not as close as to Venus. The time was about 9:05pm.

This screenshot from software shows the orientation of the Moon, Mercury, and Venus in the western sky after sunset on 13 May.

A full zoom of the camera captured the thin phase of the Moon and a hint of the tiny disc of the planet Mercury. The dark objects below Mercury are tree leaves in the foreground.

Moon 2.28 days old and 4.34% illumination
Mercury 0.901 au and 45% illumination
